Grove is a village and civil parish on Letcombe Brook, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of Wantage in the Vale of White Horse.

The origin of the name is Old English grafa and graefe – ‘the grove’. Known as La Grave in 1188 and Grove from 1316. Historically, a part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire.

The 1911 Census returns recorded the parish’s population as 590 (294 males and 296 females),
the 1921 Census as 618 (source: Census of England & Wales 1921: County of Berks, Table 5),
the 1931 Census as 626 (source Census of England & Wales 1931: County of Berks (part 1) Table 3),
